From September 8-10, 2023, the 2023 China (Guigang) E-vehicle Industry Development Forum, co-hosted by the China Bicycle Association, the Secretariat of the China-ASEAN Expo, the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Commerce Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the Guangxi branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Communist Party Committee of Guigang City, and the People’s Government of Guigang City, took place in Nanning and Guigang, Guangxi.
At the forum held on April 8, themed “New Era, New Opportunities, New Challenges,” representatives from relevant national ministries, government departments of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Nanning municipal government departments, Guigang municipal government departments, representatives from the China-ASEAN Business Council, the China Bicycle Association, provincial and municipal bicycle and e-bicycle trade (associations), ASEAN national bicycle and e-bicycle trade (associations), industry institutions, industry-leading enterprises, distributors, and media gathered. They offered insights and strategies to pioneer the RCEP market with high-quality e-vehicles from China, examining the new market dynamics and shifts under the RCEP framework, taking the market, products, and brands as focal points.
The forum emphasized the importance of advancing China’s e-vehicles in high-level international trade, leveraging RCEP to boost product exports, expanding and strengthening market brands. By analyzing the RCEP signatory countries’ markets from various angles and considering the current state of China’s e-vehicle industry and exports, it aimed to guide Chinese enterprises to effectively utilize Guangxi and Guigang’s industrial foundation. The objective was to refine products, enhance brand reputation, penetrate the RCEP market, serve this market, promote Chinese e-vehicle international brands, and support the high-quality growth of the e-vehicle industrial park in Guigang.
At the forum, Chen Ning delivered a keynote speech on “RCEP Free Trade Agreement Assisting New Energy E-vehicle Innovative Development.” Yu Xuemei, Deputy Director of the Commerce Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, shared insights on “Effectively Implementing RCEP: Opportunities Guangxi Offers for Enterprises Looking to Go Global.”
Guests like Bounleuth Luangpaseuth, Vice Chairman of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Tan Monivann, Vice Chairman of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and President of the Automobile Association, Ms. Kaung Kaung Phyo Mon, Deputy Director of the Industrial Cooperation Bureau of the Myanmar Ministry of Industry, and Pham Cuong, Chairman of the Vietnam Automobile, Motorcycle, E-Motorcycle, and Bicycle Association, provided an overview and shared insights on e-vehicle policies in ASEAN countries.
During the roundtable segment, representatives from institutions such as the Foreign Trade Research Institute of the International Trade Economic Cooperation Research Institute of the Ministry of Commerce, China Bicycle Association, Jiangsu Wuxi Inspection and Testing Certification Research Institute, AIMA International Division, Wuxi Shengbao VEHICLE Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (OPAI), and WUYANG-HONDA Motorcycles (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd., all took the stage. They engaged in discussions around the topic of “Seizing New Opportunities for Chinese E-two-wheelers Going Global.”
On the morning of September 9, in Guigang, Guangxi, the China Electric Motorcycle Export Symposium was convened. This event invited both domestic and international industry associations, along with leading export enterprises, to share insights on topics including “Analysis of the Current Status and Trends in China’s Electric Bicycle Industry,” “The Development and Export Situation of the Electric Motorcycle Industry in Guigang,” “Product Standards in the ASEAN Market,” and “The Situation in the ASEAN Market.” Furthermore, select testing organizations and company representatives were invited to share their experiences, promoting industrial business cooperation and jointly discussing solutions to export bottlenecks.
In the afternoon of the 9th, leaders from the China Bicycle Association, the leadership of the Gangbei District of Guigang city, and representatives from eight ASEAN countries met. They engaged in friendly and in-depth discussions about strengthening cooperation in the electric motorcycle industry between China and the ASEAN countries. Additionally, during the forum, an Electric Bicycle Quality Technical Seminar was organized. It was attended by business heads, technical experts from the Tianjin and Guangxi Quality Inspection Institutes, the Guangxi New Energy Electric Motorcycle Product Quality Inspection Center, as well as representatives from electric bicycle companies like Aima, LUYUAN, TAILG, Oupai, Five Star Diamond Leopard, and Fangtai. Together, they deliberated on methods to enhance the quality and development of electric bicycle products, pushing for Guangxi’s electric bicycles to be of high quality when entering the international market.
From September 9 to 10, in tandem with the forum, an electric motorcycle racing experience event was organized. Leveraging cultural engagement as its focal point, the event aimed to further enhance the renown and influence of China’s electric motorcycle brands, nurturing industry brands and encouraging the transformation and upgrade of products and consumption.
In the golden autumn of September, the industry rendezvoused in Guangxi, meeting both in Nanning and Guigang. The 2023 China (Guigang) E-vehicle Industry Development Forum brought together elites from various industry sectors. They gathered to discuss the prospects and challenges of the electric motorcycle industry, offering new developmental opportunities for its future.
